The puzzles are varied and interesting and I enjoyed these very much. The oculus also serves to show you mechanisms inside the machines and reveal hidden letters, much alike the previous game. There aren’t that many time travelling moments in the game but it will be needed on a few occasions. For example, turning off water taps that have damaged a bridge in your time will mean that the bridge is no longer damaged and you can walk across it. Using your oculus, you can travel back to the same location in the past and alter events there which will filter through to present time when you return. The new element to the game is the time travelling oculus.
There is a chapter select option after you complete the game to get any achievements you missed but you’ll need to play the whole game again if you missed the time related achievements in your first run. Three of them depend on how quickly you finish the game which I don’t like. Another thing to note is that achievements are now mostly puzzle based although some rely on not using the Oculus so you’ll need to look them up before you start. I was enjoying the story very much but then it seemed to bizarrely end with no conclusion and switched to another story. The story is performed much more professionally in this game with decent voice acting and graphical cut scenes. The puzzles vary in difficulty and length but they are all manageable and proved to be a challenging and rewarding experience. I was able to complete all puzzles without using too many hints. There is still a handy hints system which will cut down your game time considerably if used but it will only give you pointers and not solutions. The new oculus also behaves like the temporis by showing blueprints and revealing hidden clues. The main difference is the game mechanics have changed from the oculus temporis, where you could see hidden objects and watch reenactments of events, to the oculus perpetua where you physically travel back in time and alter things there to affect events in current time.
