I didn't have any fast lenses with me, so I just tried my Apple iPhone 13 Pro - and was absolutely amazed at the job it did - I'm sure if I ran the images through DXO PureRAW 3, or 6 Elite, they would be even better. I was in Ecuador last summer, when we had the chance to see a cultural concert/dance exhibition.

I think these outcomes are as they should have been expected. Additionally you can get better noise suppression when post-processing on a computer because it doesn't have to be applied in real-time like in the camera. Why the 'to be honest'.? Low light (or rather: high-ISO) shooting has always been the number one reason for shooting raw and getting more dynamic range to work with. The other image looks more correctly exposed, and noise levels seem correspondingly lower, but the theatrical lighting is creating pink-tinged shadows that resemble banding in the face of the girl in the foreground. Additionally I think Tedolf is right that you could have used a lower ISO setting.

When you're shooting at high ISO, you have to be careful to use the limited dynamic range to its fullest. then I don't think it is a good example because this image is underexposed by 1 stop (just eyeballing it). If it's the noise levels in the girl's face: It would help if you were more specific about what your complaint is. Nix82, what is yours set to? I usually leave it off and do NR in post with raw files.īurdening your camera with more work will slow capture rate which is fine in many circumstances but unacceptable in others. Do not confuse it with "Noise Reduction" which is dark frame subtraction. Should I not be surprised? Is this everyone's experience?Ĭustom Menu E -> Noise filter: off, low, standard, high. I always thought the camera would be doing a great noise reduction job, but now, looking at these examples, I'm sincerely wondering if there's any point producing JPGs in low-light to be honest. And a little "DeepPrime XD" later, this is what you get:

Thankfully, I held on to the RAW files, and prayed DxO (6.4) would do it's magic. Here are two examples, one with each lens. OK, ISO6400, MFT, I get it! Colors might look dull, severe loss of details, and all the good stuff. I don't have the PL 200 but the 75 is an excellent choice for that scenario.īut then I looked at the JPGs on my laptop. And as I was shooting, looking at the pics I was taking through the LCD, it seemed OK! I think the lens selection was the right one. I sat in the middle of the room with the other parents. I used the OM-1, the Oly 75mm f1.8 and the PanaLeica 200mm f2.8. So I recently shot my first indoor event just a casual dance show of my niece.
